“The Grand Challenges Scholars Program (GCSP) helped shape the way I thought about my potential as a biomedical engineering student. As Dean Yortsos would say, it challenged me to reflect on who engineers are and what we do. Rather than solely handling technical tasks, I conducted dozens of interviews with cancer patients to develop a medication management app, did an undergraduate-run research project on modeling ciliary motion, and led interdisciplinary student teams at medical device hackathons. GCSP encouraged me to not only be an engineer, but also an entrepreneur, a researcher, and a leader. As an incoming medical student at NYU, I look forward to continuing to embrace these identities and exploring how they can help me make the biggest possible impact on my future patients.”
